  • bhujangasanaYoga for the Spine

    “Bhujangam means serpent. Bhuja means upper arms. This Asana is just like a cobra raising its upper body and spreading out its hood”.

    Step 1: Lie down flat on the ground on your stomach in a straight line. Keep the palms of your hands on the ground besides the chest, with your arms bent and elbows pointing towards your feet

    Step 2: Inhale, raise your head, shoulders and your trunk up, off the floor, keeping your loin in contact with the floor, just like cobra raising on the floor, opening its hood. Let your face look straight ahead.

    Step 3: Hold position for a few seconds, breathing normally.

    Step 4: Exhale slowly, return to normal position.

    Benefits:-

    1. Gives relief in cases of cervical spondylosis. Stretches neck muscles.

    2. Beneficial in slip – disc problems. Makes spine more flexible

    3. The abdominal area is exercised and hence this asana helps digestion.

    Caution

    1. Persons with hernia should avoid this Asana.

    2. Avoid if you have abdominal problems.
